Linda Kohen: Spare Room

September 16th, 2020 — November 14th, 2020

Spare Room presents the underlying memory of something long gone that permeates Kohen's seventy-year-long memoir. Having lived a life colored by uncertainty and departure, painting was Kohen's way to pin down the last trace of a memory before it disappeared from the world. Her 2005 painting-installation, El Gran Biombo, welcomes the spectator into the meticulously painted corridors of her home. During isolation Kohen reflected on her major installation, assembling an abundance of drawings which exercise a more minimal approach to depicting her home. Collectively, the exhibited works define her earnest and autobiographical approach to confronting the implications of image-making. Offering a new entry-point into the artist's compendious record of her personal life.
