“Nothing in this world dies. And everything dies. Things change. It’s a continuous flow. It doesn’t just belong to me; it belongs to a relationship of my time, matter, space, and ancestry.”

— Advânio Lessa

In collaboration with Gomige&Co, we welcome the practice of Advânio Lessa (b. 1981), a Brazilian artist-farmer with Quilombola heritage living at the foot of the mountain range in Minas Gerais. As the name of the village where he comes from, Lavras Novas, Lessa’s art opens a realm from which one can receive a boundless source of energy, emanating from the Earth’s deepest womb, melded with the wisdom of generational ancestral artisan knowledge in basketry and woodworking. “O veio das coisas” (The vein of things) explores Lessa’s ethos, embodying an egalitarian worldview where all living beings are interconnected and hold equal significance. In his practice, agriculture and art merge seamlessly into a unified existence.
