“My ideas have to adapt to the material. There is an attunement, a togetherness with the material. I never work against it, or try to tear it to my desires, it would not accept it anyway.” -Anne-Cecile Surga
Piero Atchugarry Gallery is pleased to present Negociando con las Moiras (Negotiating with the Fates), an inaugural solo-exhibition by French sculptor Anne-Cecile Surga (b. 1987). Negociando con las Moiras presents a selection of sculptures convening around the theme of destiny, and the complexities of the human experience in relation to the acceptance of one's own inexorable fate. In Greek mythology, the Moirai, or Fates, were revered as the embodiments of destiny, wielding an undeniable influence over the course of human lives. With profound reverence for this ancient concept, Surga's work transcends mere acceptance, inviting negotiation and introspection into the fabric of destiny itself. Each sculpture serves as a conduit for understanding contemporary societal issues, informing the profound ways in which our lived experiences intersect with the forces that influence our paths.
